Patagonia Organic Jeans

Patagonia Organic Jeans

It was inevitable that the world’s most popular trousers would make it into the outdoor market. A couple of years ago I tested some Alpkit jeans (which were waterproof) and have also had a pair of Moon jeans. Now for some by Patagonia. Patagonia are well known for their high quality and ethical approach so I have been reviewing these jeans with high expectations. And they haven’t disappointed. They are comfortable, stylish and fit very nicely. They are showing no signs of wear and tear. The stitching is as good now as it was two months ago when I started wearing them. I am tall. As such I usually suffer when buying trousers as I can’t find many that I like with a long enough inside leg length. Patagonia obviously realise that there are plenty of outdoorsy folk who have long legs, the jeans being available with a 34” inseam. Hooray. That alone is a winner for me, but the fact that they are made from 100% organic cotton sits well too. The only downside is perhaps the price. Retailing at £80 most will baulk at paying that much for a pair of jeans, but it’s easy enough to shop around and get them a little cheaper. Also consider the fact that I recently bought a pair of jeans online for £15. I thought I had myself a bargain, but they didn’t fit, were uncomfortable, and not made of organic cotton. I won’t be doing that again. A nice touch is that you can take the jeans back to a Patagonia store after you have worn them into the ground, and they will recycle them for you. Clever stuff.

Here’s the blurb from the Patagonia website:

Like a good truck and a good dog, a good pair of blue jeans rates among life's key essentials. Our Regular Fit Jeans are made from rugged but soft 100% organic cotton and fit just right: not too baggy, not too tight. They have a button fly, classic 5-pocket styling, are available in two distinct washes and three inseams: short, 30"; regular, 32"; long, 34". When they're shredded we'll take them back for recycling.
