CLIFFHANGER WEBSITE MAKEOVER
CLIMB IT, RUN IT, BIKE IT, CLICK IT!
Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd July 2011
With just over a month to go until Sheffield’s Cliffhanger, Peak District web design team Hammer Design have revamped the festival’s website.
Event director, Matt Heason, says: “As ever, Hammer Design have been a pleasure to work with. They listen to your brief and deliver what you want and more. I love the clean, new blue/black/white colour scheme and the intuitive image-led navigation.”
Heason Events PR Lissa Cook says: “When Matt told me he was launching a new website for the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival the week before the event I nearly had a heart attack. But Hammer’s team delivered the goods. The new website was slick and the content management system easy to use. And we got great comment from journalists. Online magazines Outdoors Magic called it ‘spangly’ and MyOutdoors said ShAFF had had a ‘touch of the Gok Wan’s with a stylish new look’. I’m equally impressed with their makeover of the Cliffhanger site.”
We’re so chuffed we’ve asked the guys and girls at Hammer to come up with a list of their favourite outdoor industry websites.
A selection of Hammer Design’s favourite ‘outdoor industry’ websites that they’ve worked on:
Wild Country - Wild Country is the UK’s leading rock climbing equipment manufacturer and one of the world’s best known outdoor brands. www.wildcountry.co.uk
Bigstone - Bigstone are the UK distributor for Arc'teryx, Smartwool, Five Ten & Edelweiss gear. A smart new redesign presents the latest news and events featuring their team of sponsored climbers and downhill riders. www.bigstone.co.uk

MORE ABOUT THE HAMMER TEAM
The Hammer Design Team
Si – As the creative director of Hammer Design Si mostly gets the blame for everything. Happiest in the mountains, Si lists his various interests as photography, mountaineering, running, diving and motorcycling - amongst many others.
Adrian – Adrian is responsible for client relations and sniffing out new opportunities. Possibly the only member of the team to own (and wear) a suit, out of hours he’s a big mountain bike enthusiast, plays tennis and even the occasional round of golf.
Ben – Previously a physicist, Ben has spent the last three and a half years writing code to make websites fast loading and easy to maintain. Although he recently bought a road bike he swears that at heart he’s a mountain biker, happiest on the trails, and can even occasionally be found climbing rocks.
Gareth – Gareth is also known in the company as The Beautiful Design Department, since he is responsible for web design, visuals and print work. Occasionally he’s set free for some kayaking, snowboarding, climbing and biking.
Claire - Since joining Hammer Design six months ago, Claire has managed some big projects, trained a great number of clients in the CMS, done lots of admin-related tasks as well as the occasional bit of web content. After work she can generally be found climbing and has recently discovered a new love for biking.
Jools – Jools joined Hammer Design in 2011 and now creates strategy, writes and refines code in tandem with Ben. A photographer for national newspapers and once a professional surfer, he's often seen out on his mountain bike these days.
Steven – The newest recruit at Hammer Design, Steven is busily coding and styling all the latest websites, adapting visuals to CSS. When he’s not staring at a computer screen, he’s out in the park or at the zoo with his family.
Meilee – Meilee works with Hammer Design on the accounts when she’s not hanging around on top of oil rigs in romantic places doing access work. The rest of the time she can be found climbing, sunbathing or dog walking in the Peak District and beyond.
Sean – Runs the workshop production and manufacture of beautiful pieces of signage and sexy furniture for all Hammer Design’s heritage work. When he’s not playing with sharp electrical tools he’s walking his dogs or in the pub – which is nice.
Ben H – Having run away to be a psychiatric nurse for a spell, Ben H is now back to head up the rest of the production and installation of the more delicate and less sexy things. He can be found stomping and cycling in the great outdoors most weekends when he’s not with his family.
