Task 2

Summarise design constraints (from brief)

List all sections of PDS

 

For each section say 2 things it needs to be, and why. Then state an improvement the brief has not asked for and explain why if possible:

The material needs to have good durability as the lifespan has been requested to last 20 years and it needs to withstand use during this period. It should also be corrosion resistant as the bracket will be exposed to moisture and extreme temperature fluctuations. Although the client hasn't asked for it, it would also be good if the whole bracket could be one material, and if it was recyclable so that it can be recycled at the end of it's life to minimise it's environmental impact.

Make sure you put more detail in: H&S, Sustainability, Regulations

 

At the end summarise opportunities identified (improvements suggested in
PDS points) in their own paragraph.

Complete calculations using the data in the section. Draw conclusions.
Use the data in designs. A good calculation is taking an average.

 

Task 3

You must produce 4 designs. They must be:

A different form (shape/construction) than the one given

An improvement in at least one way

Not identical - vary as far as possible.

For each design annotate

Dimensions

Material & justification (Try and vary where possible)

Manufacturing process & justification (Try and vary where possible)

Any features/functions of the design that aren't obvious

Explain how it is an improvement on the original

Comment on how it meets the brief

 

Task 4

Pick your best design from activity 3. You can combine 2 or more. Start by explaining your choice.

Produce the following drawings:

3D view - with closeups of details/mechanisms

Orthographic views - of each part individually

Add the following annotations:

Explain the design - reference the brief & constraints - how does your design meet the requirements?

Material choice - Justify

Alternative options for material - justify

Manufacturing process - Justify

Alternative option for manufacturing process - justify

Describe & explain safety features

Full Life Cvcle Analysis (Raw material - manufacture - distribution - use - disposal)
