Controversial, enigmatic and strong-willed, Gary has been new-routing for a very long time and has irritated almost everybody by doing it by challenging the field of ethical debate from day one.

In his lecture ‘Obsession’, Gary takes an irreverent look below the surface of his passion for the desire to be the person who has done the most first ascents in British climbing history.

From the early days where every conceivable antic imaginable was employed to get his name in the magazines, to the days of self-promotion through the press and more latterly to more present day controversies of bolting, Gary leaves no stone unturned in the search for the reasons for ‘Obsession’.

In the process Gary visits all of his favourite areas including the Peak District, North Wales, Pembroke, Lundy and other areas to capture the diversity and ‘quality’ of his finds.
