Dave Lucas lecture - 'Tall Tales from a Vertical World' - from the Durham University Mountaineering Club. Dave Lucas has been lucky enough to have over 44 months of expedition experience to over 60 countries on 6 different continents. Dave gives an insight into the adventures and experiences that make climbing expeditions such a special part of his life. How often would you go climbing and trade your car in for a camel only to find that your guide is an opium lord and you are about to be climbing from an illegal opium plantations. Or perhaps on top of the climb you are about to do there are ruins that no one has seen for hundreds of years that hold legends of gold and treasure. But first you have to get past the marauding baboons and the razor sharp talons of passing vultures. Dave counts the climbing, although impeccable, as the icing on top of the cake. The real reason he organises and leads climbing expeditions is to experience some bizarre epic adventures. The people you meet, places you see and food you eat is the real fruit and nut mix of the proverbial expedition cake. How often have you been offered an arm of a woolly monkey to eat as your post climbing dinner? Be
